Research status and progress of titanium foams prepared by space holder technique

  • Titanium foams are considered as a kind of novel materials which combine with the advantages of foam structure and metal titanium. Because of the excellent mechanical properties, superior corrosion resistance, and good biocompatibility, the titanium foams are attractive in the fields of aerospace, marine engineering, biomedical, energy, and environmental protection. The space holder technique based on the powder metallurgy technology is the main method for the preparation of titanium foams, which not only has the advantages of simple operation and low requirements for equipment, but also can control the structure and property by adjusting the parameters of space holder. A research status and progress of titanium foams prepared by space holder technique were summarized in this paper. The progress and bottleneck of high porosity titanium foams were discussed by literature analysis and data arrangement, the research trend on the porosity of titanium foam was pointed out.
