Effect of Al matrix type on the uniform flowability of beryllium-aluminum composites

  • The effect of Al matrix type on the flowability curves, strain-hardening exponent(n), and microstructures of the compressed beryllium-aluminum composite was studied by Gleeble-3800 thermal-simulation machine and scanning electron microscope under the deformation temperature of 450~600 ℃ and strain rate of 0.1~10 s-1. The results show that, the Be/Al composite with pure aluminum matrix is prone to fracture failure under the relatively small strain. The homogeneous deformation ability of Be/Al composites with 6061 Al matrix before unstable deformation is found to be higher than that of pure aluminum matrix composite, which leads to a better compatible deformation ability.
