Effects of MoS2 Addiction on the Tribological Characteristics of Self-lubricating Nickel-base Material

  • The tribological properties of the self-lubricating material, which was made from Ni-20Cr alloy powder and MoS 2 powder by HP process, were studied here in detail. The results show that the material with 20% MoS2 addiction has the best friction-wear properties. During HP process, MoS2 thermo-decomposes to react with chromium in the alloy and produce CrxSy(x/y=2/3~1) compound, which may soften or melt at high temperature and form transferring lubricating film between frictional surfaces to lower friction coefficient.
