Abstract
The binding behavior between carbide-forming elements(Cr, Ti and W) and graphite or diamond in the matrix materials of diamond has been studied. The results have shown that a carbide layer is formed as a result of the reaction between carbide forming elements and graphite or diamond. Through the carbide layer, metallurgical binding is produced between matrix materials and diamond. Binding strength between matrix and diamond is improved by Cr addition in Co- and Cu-based matrix materials and meanwhile Cr has a solution strengthening effect on Co-based matrix material. W has a given effect on binding up with diamond.
